Lightweight Vehicle Armor Plating
- Providing additional protection for our war-fighters and reducing the weight of military vehicles are the primary objectives of U. S. Department of Defense’s light weight vehicle armor plating program. Reinforced aluminum plating incorporating Fi-BarTM can provide greater protection, reduce the level of casualties to personnel, while reducing the overall weight of the vehicle.
–The addition of Fi-BarTM in aluminum has been demonstrated to provide greater blast mitigation than traditional materials. Where metals typically fragment during a blast, causing collateral damage to personnel, the inclusion of Fi-BarTM helps prevent the fragmentation effects of the blast minimizing extreme collateral damage to personnel.
Lightweight Personnel Armor
– Recent designs in personal protection continue to be developed for our military personnel. Lighter, more effective protection materials to minimize the effects of small arms fire and explosive fragments have improved drastically over the last ten-years. Integration of Fi-BarTM in personal lighter weight protection gear will further reduce the weight of the garment as well as increase the protection it affords due to the strength of the fiber, leading to innovative changes in how personnel armor systems are designed and fabricated.
Specialty Marine Applications
- Special Ops watercraft require exceptional speed, strength, and maneuverability to accomplish their high-risk objectives. Reducing the weight of the watercraft by incorporating Fi-BarTM in the hull, superstructure, and powerplant provides our military a critical competitive advantage. The Fi-BarTM also provides added protection against small-arms fire and explosions.
Deep Submergence Vessels
- The stresses experienced by submersible marine craft due to excessive pressures at depth are continually being tested and evaluated. Combining ACF's Fi-BarTM with high-strength metals like titanium, steel, and their associated alloys can greatly increase the operational limits on research and military vessels.
